There is growing evidence of coherence and superposition within photosynthesis. The efficiency of conversion from photon impact to reaction center appears to be optimized by resonance of exciton transfer within the pigment-protein-complex chain, reinforcing a coherent state.

My question is with regard to the wave function collapse ... why should the optimum path be "selected"? It's not (I don't think) like a quantum computing algorithm where the unwanted "solutions" cancel out. What shifts the probabilites compared to a classical analysis?

I think this question is too highly specialised - I for one don't know the answer. Remember that most of us on here aren't actually scientists, we are just interested amateurs.

I am not familiar with this process, but would make a comment; how does lightening find the fastest route to ground before it actually goes there? I think the answer lies in the boundry conditions even if they lie in the future. Also it may be that it is not actually optimised, just that the optimal solutions are far more likely than the others.
