    Hi,

I was wondering why is it that the sky gets dark (during daytime) when a strong source of light appears in the atmosphere.

For example: A nuclear explosion, a space rocket launch...

    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,

    Antonio.

Assuming that you aren't asking why the mushroom cloud causes darkness, you're probably being fooled by film footage of explosions. Film has limited dynamic range, so you end up with a distorted representation of what happens. There is no darkening; quite the contrary.
