In a recent thread I wanted to attach a PDF file. However when I clicked on the Manage Attachments button nothing happened. Same thing happened with that attachment icon. What's going on with it? How do I attach a PDF file.

Markus - I'd like to talk to you in private but I can't send you PMs, right? So how about I e-mail you? If you don't want to use your e-mail address then I'll let you use an old e-mail address that I hardly ever use anymore. If you're willing to exchange e-mails then let me know and I'll get my e-mail address to you through an intermediary.

This doesn't work for me either - just another one of the many problems the forum software has at present.

I can receive and read PMs, but I cannot reply to them or compose new messages. However, I have no problem discussing anything science-related here in public on this thread; I much prefer not to go the email route. Can I ask what it is about ?

Sure. I waned to ask you why, after repeated requests, you won't tell me who you're quoting. I keep asking but you neither tell me why or start telling me who your quoting. I thought that you might not want to tell me in public.

Also I was thinking that if it was just my account then I could e-mail the article for you to upload and you could upload it to the forum for me. I have the appendix to Guth's text in a PDF file and wanted to upload it so everyone could read about the zero total energy of the universe and how it's accomplished by negative energy. However you inspired me today by giving up on Farsight. I was wondering who long that would take you. So there's no need for it now since he was the only one complaining about negative energy.

May I inquire as to what your objections are with e-mail? After all, I never asked you to divulge your own since I'd let you use mine. That way I could have passed files to you or if needed to talk in private since you're a moderator and sometimes I might want to talk to a moderator in private. But that was when I thought the PM wasn't working. I'm just curious now.

If you want to participate, you'll have to take people off ignore. Saying you can't see them and then asking who they are is a bit disingenuous.

The zero total energy of the universe is a popscience myth. Gravitational field energy is positive energy. See page 185 of the Doc 30 Foundation of The General Theory of Relativity: "the energy of the gravitional field shall act gravitatively in the same way as any other kind of energy". When two bodies fall towards each other then coalesce, gravitational potential energy is converted into kinetic energy which is typically dissipated, leaving a mass deficit. But energy is conserved.

But that's OK, you can ignore that and everything else I say. And congratulate Markus on chucking my posts into some trashcan on the grounds that I'm "challenging the mainstream". When what I'm actually doing, is challenging you.

I answered that already - because the "Quote" function does not work for me. When I click the button I get taken to a screen with a non-functioning ( grey ) input field. The only way for me to quote text is to copy-and-paste it into the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of each thread, and that does not copy the username of the original poster. I shall try to insert this manually from now on.

Also I was thinking that if it was just my account then I could e-mail the article for you to upload and you could upload it to the forum for me.
The attachment upload and image insertion functions also do not work for me at present.

My problem is that I am active on too many places around the Internet - science is just one of my hobbies, I also run websites and social networks on other topics ( most of which are not public and invitation-only ). I am facing an intensely busy time both at work and at home, so I simply do not want to get involved on yet another platform/site at present. I am hoping that the software issues here will be resolved eventually.

I never used such a function myself. Do it manually, i.e. write out "[quote" and then put an "=" sign right after it and then the name of who you're quoting. Then you close it with "]". Then you write whatever it is you're quoting and then close the quote with "[/quote]".

Thank you Markus. That will make things much easier for me.

That's very incorrect. Those in my ignore list because I found them to rude to want to see what they're posting. However when someone is responding to what someone said I want to know who they're talking to. That's quite far from being disingenuous in any way whatsoever. And who Markus is quoting may not be in my ignore list anyway. It'd just make things easier if I didn't have to search an entire thread to find out who he's quoting even for those not in my ignore list. Why this seems to bothers you is very odd to me.

Markus/KJW - I sent you each a PM about something. Did you get it?

No. Sorry, but I can't. The first part contains confidential information. The second part is a file tells you confidential information that tells you how to get an article I thought that you and KJW would want to read about GR and which metrics are solutions to Einstein's field equations.

BTW, it's "Markus," not "Marcus." Markus is generously not fussy about the common (mis)spelling, but I think that we owe this true gentleman the respect of getting his name right.

I know it's spelled Markus. This is the only thread since I've been here where I made that mistake. It only happened because I spelled it wrong once at the beginning and I do a copy and paste when it comes to people's names so as to make sure I don't misspell it. I guess that idea blew up in my face, huh? Lol!

tk421 - Since you liked that post I decided to go through the entire thread and correct every instance of the wrong spelling that I was able to.
