    Dear All,

as most of you know I have been quite active on a number of science forums over the last couple of years; I am a moderator of TSF, an admin here on TPF, an admin on the Facebook "Cosmology" and "Relativity" groups, as well as an ordinary member on Cosmoquest, PhysicsForums, and the Physics Stack Exchange. I also own, moderate, administer ( and participate on ) a number of other places around the Internet, which don't deal with scientific subjects and hence shall remain unnamed here. In any case, I am finding that I have made a mistake in overexerting myself by getting involved in too many places and with too many projects, and I am finding that the sheer workload this generates has become a source of stress for me. I cannot allow this to continue, since all of this is meant to be a hobby to be enjoyed, not a source of stress; furthermore, I am spending far too much time online on a daily basis, to the extent of it impacting on my self-studies and my family life. I have recently started revising basic quantum mechanics ( from Griffiths' excellent gold-standard text "Introduction to Quantum Mechanics" ), with a view on progression towards a detailed self-study if quantum field theory in both flat and curved space-times over the next year or so. My current knowledge in that area is far too superficial to be of any practical use, so it is essential for me to tackle this before focusing on loop quantum gravity and causal dynamical triangulations, and quantum gravity in a wider context. The pop-sci articles and texts on these subjects just don't cut it for me, so I need to slowly build up the necessary physical and mathematical tools to be able to understand those in greater detail. This requires time and focus, both of which I am lacking at present largely due to my spending too much time trying to micro-manage various sites and online activities. I have just had my second grandchild born into the family, so now is the perfect time for me to make some changes and re-focus on the basics of what actually matters to me - the first step will be to drastically curtail the amount of time I spend online.

For these reasons I am herewith announcing my resignation both as administrator and participating member on this forum, with immediate effect. This will be my last post here. I will also stop participating on a number of other places; I will continue to contribute only on The Science Forum ( I am contactable via PM there ), PhysicsForums, the two aforementioned Facebook groups, and one other not science related site - albeit at a much reduced level of activity. In the absence of the Site Admin, all administrator duties on this forum have been handed over to SpeedFreek - please direct all relevant queries to him, going forward. I trust you will extend your full cooperation to him. I will not at this point exclude the possibility of me returning here at some point in the future, but I won't commit to that, nor would that be any time soon. My focus now needs to be on my studies.

I wish to thank everyone for your support here over the last few months; there were good times and difficult times, and while this place did not reach the potential I had been hoping it would, it was nonetheless a largely positive experience for me. I wish everyone all the best for your futures, wherever it may take you.

    Kind regards,
    Markus Hanke

I wish you all the best for your future projects.

It has been a real pleasure to be able to look at the world through that powerful lens that is your mind.

    Thank you, so

Bye for now Markus, it is a shame you are leaving, but I understand your reasons.

Funnily enough I am also revising QM and am on page 177 of Griffiths, so good luck with that. Just arrived today is "Quantum Field Theory for the Gifted Amateur", it looks amazing.

Thanks for all your help and support.I hope you can still pop back from time to time.

I just heard. I hope it isn't too late to say that I'm very sorry to see you leave, Markus, and to offer hearty congratulations on the birth of your new grandchild!

    Take care,
